Report on North American Managed Security Service Providers (MSSPs) names Bell to the Challenger quadrant

MONTRÉAL, March 10th 2011  – Bell today announced it has been positioned in Gartner’s Magic Quadrant of managed security service providers (MSSPs) in the Challengers category. This annual Gartner report analyzes how well North American MSSPs* and their security services can meet various enterprise requirements.

“We believe Bell’s positioning in the Challengers quadrant of Gartner’s Magic Quadrant underlines that Bell can help Canadian businesses of all sizes effectively manage security risks relating to information and communication technologies,” said Stéphane Boisvert, President of Bell Business Markets. “Bell’s growing standalone managed security services delivery capability and its strong experience as a provider for the Canadian government has proven we have the expertise to help businesses protect their own ICT (information and communications technology) systems against vulnerabilities.”

According to Mr. Boisvert, the market growth for managed security services (MSS) is largely the result of rising concern about the threat landscape and swiftly evolving hacker techniques. As well, more complex and vulnerable IT systems mean that few businesses are likely to have the appropriate internal expertise to manage security to the standards required.

The Gartner report defined the MSS portfolio to include core services such as monitoring and managing firewalls, and intrusion detection and prevention systems. In addition, it included managed services such as multi-function firewall/UTM services, Web-application firewalls, data loss prevention services and security information management services.

Gartner evaluated each company on a long list of criteria in two overall categories:

  • Ability to execute, which included the actual product/service offerings, overall viability, sales execution and pricing, track record, customer experience and operations
  •
  • Completeness of vision, which involved market understanding, marketing and sales strategy, business model, vertical and geographic strategy, and innovation.
