The Bell Capital Cup was the recipient of the Ottawa Tourism award for Event of the Year. The Bell Capital Cup is the world's premier atom and minor peewee hockey tournament. The award celebrates the fact that the tournament hosted 419 teams. Almost half of these teams stayed in hotels with 13,500 hotel room nights booked. The local economic impact is approximately $11 million at a time of year (between Christmas and New Year's) when the hotel occupancy rate is typically quite low. Bell has been the title sponsor since the tournament's inception seven years ago. This year, more than 400 teams from around the world, including approximately 90 teams from the United States and teams from Austria, Czech Republic, Finland, Ukraine and Russia will compete in the tournament.
