SAINT JOHN, NB, Jan. 18 /CNW/ - Aliant (TSE: AIT) today announced the
upcoming launch of NBTel's interactive television service, which is leading
the way in Canada as the first-ever interactive television service to be
commercially delivered by a telecommunications company.
"We are proud to announce that Aliant Telecom has entered the exciting
world of interactive entertainment services," said Stephen Wetmore, President
and Chief Executive Officer of Aliant. "Recent world events have demonstrated,

business markets require. We are delighted to be the first in North America to
commercially launch this type of service."
Gerry Pond, Executive Vice-President of Aliant and President of Aliant IT

employee ingenuity, valuable customer feedback and a close partnership with
iMagicTV, a software company headquartered in Saint John, of which Aliant is
the major shareholder.
"Together we have evolved a commercially viable service that uses a
telco's fully convergent infrastructure to deliver solutions customers
require. The innovation and ingenuity of Atlantic Canadians is to be saluted
as we go forward with this first in our Province, region and continent," said
Mr. Pond.
