Bell Canada invests in the leaders of tomorrow

$100,000 donation to Mount Royal College's "Future Leaders Program"
    triples student participation

    CALGARY,March 15 2005 --
Bell Canada is investing $100,000 in the
Mount Royal College Future Leaders Program to develop young entrepreneurs,
leaders and technology innovators of the future.
The annual summer program is offered to youth ages 14 to 17 in Calgary.
Bell Canada's investment enables the College to triple the number of student
participants and to develop a new curriculum level. The donation also provides
bursaries to increase access to the program.
"Bell is committed to strengthening the capacity of communities by
investing in programs that support children and youth," said Stephen Wetmore,
Group President, National Markets for Bell Canada. "Mount Royal's Future
Leaders Program will enrich the lives of many young Albertans and help them
become the community leaders of tomorrow."
The Mount Royal College investment aligns with Bell's recently launched,
national community investment program. Connected to Communities builds on the
company's existing corporate giving initiatives. The program focuses on
projects that encourage economic development and the strengthening of social
foundations at the community level, with an emphasis on initiatives that
benefit children and youth. As part of the commitment, Bell will increase its
community investment by about 40 per cent to $26 million by 2007.
"The Future Leaders Program gives students a place to come and learn
while meeting peers with similar interests and aspirations," said Brent Mann,
Mount Royal College's Children and Youth Programs Administrator. "The
confidence and leadership skills that they develop during their time in the
program are transferable to all facets of their current and future lives."
The Future Leaders Program is part of the Mount Royal College's Youth
Programs Centre. The program was established two years ago for youth who are
interested in expanding their knowledge while preparing for leadership roles
in their current educational and future post-secondary settings. Students
learn advanced entrepreneurship and leadership skills, including computer
applications, conflict resolution, peer mediation and volunteerism. An outdoor
pursuit element is incorporated to provide a focus on team building and trust.
