Aliant Telecom Launches New Television Technology in Halifax

HALIFAX,Aug. 30 2001 --Chris Keevill, President, Aliant Telecom
Broadband Services, of the Aliant Telecom companies (MTT, NBTel, Island Tel,
NewTel) announced in Halifax the launch of VibeVision, a new technology that
provides digital interactive television service that's leading the way in
North America. The technology and software for VibeVision was developed in
Atlantic Canada.
"Aliant is particularly proud to be launching this service in Atlantic
Canada first and of the fact that the innovation and creativity to develop
this technology came from right here in Atlantic Canada," says Keevill.
"VibeVision is television with kick," he says. "Our customers can now
have entertainment and information - including television, movies and music --
at their fingertips. And that is only the beginning. With VibeVision you can
surf the Internet and read and send email messages."
VibeVision offers over 160 high-quality digital television and audio
channels, accessed through a set-top box and an interactive television guide.
"This technology offers our customers more choice and provides an innovative
alternative to cable - with the added convenience of Internet access from your
television set," explains Keevill.
VibeVision is the newest addition to Aliant Telecom's broadband services,
which use Digital Subscriber Lines ("DSL") technology to deliver secure high-
speed Internet and now interactive television, to its customers. Keevill
explains that the technology to deliver VibeVision was developed in
partnership with iMagicTV, a Saint John-based company and has been available
in New Brunswick since last year.
"Aliant's latest expansion of its VibeVision service is great news," says
Marcel LeBrun, President and CEO of iMagicTV. "It's extremely gratifying to
know that Atlantic Canadians are among those around the world that will use
and enjoy our technology."
VibeVision is currently offered in select areas in the Halifax Peninsula
and Rockingham in Nova Scotia and in select areas in Saint John and Moncton in
New Brunswick. This is the first of a series of expansions planned for
VibeVision in the coming months. For more information on VibeVision, visit or call 1-877-624-7624.
