SBC Executive Brings Extensive Telecommunications Experience to Bell

 MONTREAL, May 5 /CNW/ - Bell Canada today announced that Jonathan Klug,
an executive with SBC Global Markets, has been named Chief Financial Officer
of Bell Canada, Canada's premier communications and Internet company. The
appointment will become effective on May 8, 2000.
	Mr. Klug's broad experience in the communications industry will assist
Bell Canada to achieve its growth and financial performance goals in the
dynamic and highly competitive Canadian marketplace.
    Mr. Klug is currently Vice President - Partner Channels and Alliances for
SBC Global Markets, where he is responsible for securing alliances for service
delivery on all major national and international business accounts. He has
held a variety of positions at Southwestern Bell and SBC Communications,
including financial analysis, marketing, sales, strategic planning and
corporate development, and was appointed President - Arkansas for Southwestern
Bell Telephone in 1998.
    Mr. Klug graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1978 with a
bachelor's degree in business administration. He also holds a master's degree
in business administration from St. Louis University.
    Mr. Klug's appointment at Bell Canada is part of the continuing
partnership between Bell and SBC, which holds a 20 per cent minority stake in
Bell. The partnership provides for a number of strategic co-operation
projects, including the exchange of a limited number of key professionals.

customers, including wired and wireless local and long distance telephone
services, Internet access, high-speed data services and directories. Bell
Canada, its telecom partners and subsidiaries provide services through 13.6
million access lines, including 11 million in Ontario and Québec. Bell Canada
