Bell Canada and Kids Help Phone Announce First Annual Bell Walk for Kids

22 Communities put on their walking shoes May 5th in support of Kids Help
    Phone

TORONTO,March 12 2002 --Bell Canada and Kids Help Phone are asking
Canadians to participate in the first annual Bell Walk for Kids, which will
take place on Sunday, May 5th in over 20 Canadian cities, from coast to
coast. Money raised from the Walk will support Kids Help Phone, Canada's only
24-hour, toll-free, bilingual, confidential phone counselling, referral and
Internet service for children and youth.
Approximately 1,000 young people per day call Kids Help Phone about a
range of concerns, including relationships, substance abuse, violence and
suicide. Kids Help Phone relies on private donations and support for its
funding, which is why this walk is so important.
"Kids Help Phone is excited to be launching our first-ever, national,
multi-city event," said Bill Saul, President & CEO, Kids Help Phone. "The Bell
Walk for Kids will be a fun event that will raise essential funds to help us
be there for all Canadian kids when they call us."
"I know each one of us would walk the extra mile to help a child. So if
we all walk together, there is no telling how far we can go and how much we
can do," said John Sheridan, President, Bell Canada. "On May 5th, each one of
our steps in the Bell Walk for Kids will be a step towards a better future for
Canadian children in need of a reassuring voice at the other end of the line."
CTV, The Globe and Mail and Sympatico.ca are also supporting the Bell
Walk for Kids through a national advertising campaign. The Bell Walk for Kids
website (www.bellwalkforkids.com), developed and
managed by Sympatico.ca,
provides details of the Walk and allows visitors to register a team online or
make a donation to Kids Help Phone by pledging a walker. From April 11th to
May 11th, Bell will donate $10 to Kids Help Phone for each purchase of select
landline phones at Bell World and Espace Bell stores.
Corporate and student challenges will take place in each of the Bell Walk
for Kids cities. Information packages are available to companies and schools
to encourage them to enter a team in the Walk.
"Bell believes it is important for corporations to actively contribute to
the communities where they operate and where their customers and employees
live and work. Involvement in the Bell Walk for Kids is one way to give back
to our communities," stated Sheridan. "We invite and encourage other Canadian
companies to rally their own employees and enter a team in the Walk."
