CTV Newsnet Extends Its Reach Beyond the Boundaries of Television with Live Streaming Now Available on CTV.ca -- New live streaming brings web users fast, reliable and cost-effective
news on-line --
TORONTO, July 19 2004 --
CTV Newsnet, Canada's only national headline
news service, is now available online at CTV.ca. Web users can now sign-up to
receive a live stream of CTV Newsnet, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The new
service, launched earlier in June, offers users unlimited viewing access to
Canada's premier headline news channel, through a Live, High Speed Video
Stream on a subscription basis.
On June 28, CTV offered a free sample of this live streaming service to
web users with the broadcast of its election coverage carried on CTV and CTV
Newsnet. Over 28,000 broadband Internet viewers tuned in to watch the election
results.
"Given the interest in our new service, it's clear that CTV.ca users want
access to CTV Newsnet online and we're pleased to be able to now deliver that
service to them," said Mark Sikstrom, Executive Producer of CTV.ca. "CTV.ca
already delivers top-notch breaking news throughout the day; this new service
will bring that extra, real time, live news dimension that our users are
looking for."
The new live streaming option is now available on a subscription basis
for $6.95 a month and a low speed, live video stream of Newsnet is available
for $4.95 a month. The online streaming of CTV Newsnet is produced in
association with INSINC a Vancouver-based Internet services provider
specializing in real-time streaming and TCP/IP based communication
technologies.
CTV Newsnet is Canada's only national headline news service providing
Canadians with up-to-the-minute news every 15 minutes. With a perspective that
is distinctly Canadian, CTV Newsnet offers both quality and immediacy with
reports from around the world. A part of the CTV News family, CTV Newsnet
draws on the resources of CTV's national, international and local news
operations, including 21 stations across the country, as well as 10 foreign
and seven domestic network news bureaus. In addition to bringing viewers news,
weather, sports, business and science reports, these extensive resources
provide CTV Newsnet with the ability to report regional stories to a national
audience. CTV Newsnet is wholly owned by CTV Inc., a division of Bell
Globemedia, which also owns The Globe and Mail.
