morning draw broadcasts
TORONTO,Feb. 28 2001 --Curling great Russ Howard will join TSN's
curling broadcast team for the 2001 Nokia Brier in Ottawa.
Howard, one of the most widely recognized names in curling today, will
join John Wells for TSN's live Breakfast at the Brier morning draw coverage
March 5-8.
TSN will broadcast 58 hours of coverage from the Nokia Brier beginning
March 3 at 1:30 pm ET. In addition to weekend broadcasts on March 3-4, TSN
will showcase up to three draws daily March 5-9. TSN's Brier ratings have
increased 61 per cent since 1994. This year's Brier action will also be
cybercast on tsn.ca.
Howard brings a wealth of knowledge to the TSN curling broadcast team. A
two-time Brier and World Champion, Howard won his first Brier and World
Championships in 1987. He won his second Brier in 1993 in Ottawa -- site of
this year's tournament -- and followed up with a win at the 1993 World
Championships.
"We're thrilled to have Russ on the team, as he's one of the best curlers
in the world," says Keith Pelley, TSN's senior vice-president of programming
and production. "Russ and John are perfectly suited to bring fans insight,
analysis, and entertainment."
In 1993, Howard skipped the first and only team to win the Grand Slam of
curling, and, recognizing his accomplishments, Sweep Magazine voted him Male
Curler of the Century.
In the off season, Howard is a golf pro at the Royal Oaks Estates & Golf
Courses in Moncton, NB.
