Pat Tabler joins TSN broadcast booth for Blue Jays telecasts Former major leaguer teams with Dan Shulman. Duo debuts March 10
TORONTO,Feb. 27 2001 --TSN announced today that Pat Tabler is the new
analyst for its 79 Toronto Blue Jays telecasts this season.
Tabler, a former Blue Jay, will team with play-by-play man Dan Shulman.
The former designated hitter and first baseman replaces new Blue Jays manager
and former analyst Buck Martinez.
Viewers will recognize Tabler from his studio analyst role on TSN
Baseball Tonight, a half-hour program that has preceded Blue Jays games in
past years. Tabler has held that role since 1993 while occasionally filling in
as a colour commentator on TSN's live Blue Jays telecasts.
"Pat Tabler is an excellent addition to our broadcast team," says Keith
Pelley, TSN's senior vice president of programming and production. "He and Dan
have worked together and developed a strong rapport with each other. Pat has
strong connections among today's players and will provide excellent analysis
and insight."
A former first round pick of the New York Yankees in the 1976 free agent
draft, Tabler made his major league debut in 1981 with the Chicago Cubs. He
played 12 years with the Cubs, Cleveland Indians (1983-87), Kansas City Royals
(1988-89), New York Mets (1990) and Toronto Blue Jays (1991-92).
The 43-year-old Cincinnati resident is known as one of baseball's
greatest career clutch hitters, batting nearly .500 in bases loaded
situations. The .282 career hitter signed with Toronto in December 1990 and
was a member of the 1992 World Series winning Blue Jays team.
In 2001, TSN will broadcast 79 regular season Blue Jays games and 12
Montreal Expos games. Tabler and Shulman make their debut on March 10 at 1:00
pm ET in the first of four Grapefruit League games TSN will telecast.
