TSN enhances weeknight schedule to bring viewers more Changes include new show That's Hockey 2 and an expanded SPORTSDESK
with new co-host
TORONTO,Sept. 28 2000 --An enhanced TSN weeknight primetime schedule is
in store for Canadian viewers starting Nov. 1.
The Canadian television leaders in hockey sports news and information
introduce a new show to TSN's regular line-up: That's Hockey 2.
The high-tempo show will focus on wrapping-up all of the news and
highlights from the NHL.
This will be the only national all-hockey show in Canadian television
devoted solely to nightly NHL action and news.
The show will stay true to the style and format of the original popular
Molson That's Hockey, with primary focus on in-depth highlights.
The half-hour program, to be hosted by Darren Dutchyshen, will air
Tuesday-Friday at 11:30 pm (ET) and on Sunday nights following the NFL season.
"That's Hockey 2 will be a fast-paced program that will revolve around
the day's hockey highlights and news," says Keith Pelley, TSN senior vice
president of programming and production. "Canadians turn to TSN for hockey
news and information and this program not only fills a void in post-game NHL
coverage but complements SPORTSDESK."
Molson That's Hockey, with host Gord Miller, will continue to air in its
regular time slot weeknights at 7:00 pm, setting the stage for the night's
hockey action. The show will preview the new NHL season with a half-hour
special Oct. 4 at 7:00 pm ET.
TSN SPORTSDESK: Longer, Earlier with a New Co-host
Also new for Nov. 1: Canada's most-watched sports news and information
program is moving up to a new timeslot at 10:00 pm ET or immediately following
the conclusion of TSN's live events.
This is the first time the program has moved in more than a decade and
represents a gradual lengthening of the show, from a half-hour when the
program originated, to the familiar one-hour and now to an extended 90
minutes.
"Following our top-notch schedule of live major sports events, this means
more time for more highlights, correspondent reports, scores, insider reports
and information," Pelley says.
The new host is James Duthie. The smooth-talking, entertaining and bright
anchor will join veteran Rod Smith on weeknights.
Most recently, Duthie has endeared himself to viewers as SPORTSDESK
weekend anchor and host of TSN's highly-acclaimed CFL studio show. He also
writes a new weekly column for tsn.ca, offering an off-beat look at the world
of sports.
"James is one of Canada's most talented broadcasters and his knowledge,
style and wit are perfectly suited to SPORTSDESK's mandate of informing and
entertaining," Pelley says.
Duthie's first column, on Canada's Olympic team, is available at
www.tsn.ca/jamesduthie.
TSN is Canada's most watched sports network. Led by TSN SPORTSDESK, the
network's comprehensive schedule includes the Olympics, Blue Jays baseball,
the NHL's Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs, international hockey, F-
1, NASCAR and CART auto racing, CFL, NFL, NBA, PGA Tour, Grand Slam tennis,
Season of Champions curling and amateur sports action. TSN's Internet site is
located at tsn.ca.
