Bell ExpressVu reaches one million customers

Industry Milestone Signals Continued Growth for
Digital Home Entertainment Growth in Canada

TORONTO,Nov. 27 2001 --Bell ExpressVu, Canada's leading satellite TV
company, made broadcast history today by becoming the first digital
distributor in the country to reach one million customers. This industry
milestone - achieved in just four years -- sends a strong signal that Bell
Canada, through the ExpressVu direct-to-home company, is the undisputed
Canadian leader in digital TV.
"There's momentum in the million," says David McLennan, President of Bell
ExpressVu. "This is a really exciting moment in our company history. We have a
great product and great people, supported by an underlying commitment to give
Canadian customers the kind of television experience that they deserve."
Bell ExpressVu's success has been driven by the company's unwavering
focus on providing customers with great value, outstanding service and the
most choice.
"We were the first broadcast distributor to offer theme packages tailored
to consumers' preferences and tastes," says Mr. McLennan. "Customers have
choice and control over what they want to watch, and what they want to pay
for. A Bell ExpressVu viewer is able to create their own network right in
their home, choosing from over 275 digital channels plus lots of great pay-per-
view movies and sporting events."
In September 1997, Bell ExpressVu launched its direct-to-home (DTH)
satellite television service. Since then, the company has enjoyed impressive
growth in customers and revenue, consistently outperforming the competition.
The company will grow its customer base by almost 50 per cent in 2001. About
70 per cent of the company's new customers come from urban markets, areas that
have traditionally been served by cable companies.
"Bell ExpressVu is an exceptional Canadian success story and this
milestone demonstrates how Bell can successfully bring a world-class service
to the market," says John W. Sheridan, President, Bell Canada. "In only four
years, Bell ExpressVu has become the undisputed digital leader. The company's
outstanding product and customer service record is a key component of Bell's
strategy to offer connectivity and communication to our customers."
One of these customers - truly a one-in-a-million Canadian - is Mr.
William Megens, of Flamborough, Ontario. When Mr. Megens installed and
activated his Bell ExpressVu receiver, the new Model 3100, he became part of
Canadian television history as the millionth Bell ExpressVu customer. Mr.
Megens purchased the system from Bell World, in Burlington.
Mr. Megens said he chose Bell ExpressVu because of the choice that it
provides to him. "We're a family that breeds and trains horses, and Bell
ExpressVu lets us follow all of the action on four horse racing channels,"
says Mr. Megens. The Bell ExpressVu programming gives him the chance to watch
his sons' horses as they compete in major events.
Bell ExpressVu offers The Racing Network, 1 and 2 as part of the More
Sports! theme package as well as two specialty pay-per-view racing channels
that offer uninterrupted racing from major Canadian and American race tracks.
This year, Bell ExpressVu introduced two new state-of-the-art receivers,
the Model 3100 and the Model 5100, Canada's first Personal Video Recorder
(PVR). Each of these receivers offers a platform for interactive TV, with
weather now available and games soon to be launched. The new products also
feature a new Electronic Programming Guide (EPG,) with a picture-in-guide that
allows viewers to surf channels without missing a moment of their favourite
show.
Bell ExpressVu's national presence includes 1600 employees in major
facilities in Toronto and Montreal, offices in western and eastern Canada, and
a nationwide network of over 3,000 retail partners. Bell ExpressVu is a
limited partnership, wholly owned by BCE Inc.
