Wireless Networking with Bell Business Internet High Speed Bell Canada and Nexland introduce wireless networking for offices with
multiple computers connected to a single high-speed Internet connection
TORONTO and MIAMI, FL,Oct. 25 2001 --Nexland Inc., (OTCBB: XLND) in
association with Bell Canada (TSE, NYSE: BCE), today launched the
WaveBase(TM), an Internet Gateway that wirelessly connects multiple computers
to share a single high-speed Internet connection. This multi-port DSL router
is compatible with Bell's 1.5Mbps or 3Mbps Business Internet services and is
available to all Bell Business Internet High Speed subscribers.
"Nexland's WaveBase product is ideal for small and medium-sized
businesses because it increases mobility for workers within an office and
allows companies to use a single high-speed connection to provide Internet
access among multiple PCs," said Pat Tremaine, vice-president, Bell ISP. "A
business can now connect employees' laptops or desktop computers to one high-
speed Internet connection without installing any new wires."
"We're proud that after extensive testing of the WaveBase, Bell has
chosen to offer this service to its high-speed customers," said Greg Levine,
president, Nexland, Inc. "The WaveBase, voted 'Editor's Choice' in Network
Computing Magazine's wireless gateway roundup this week, is an easy-to-use
wireless sharing device that is designed to meet the robust needs of Bell's
business customers and provide fast, reliable and secure Internet access for
multiple networked computers."
The WaveBase transmits data across a company's wireless LAN at up to
11Mbps and dynamically allocates bandwidth between computers so that one high-
speed Internet connection can be successfully split between multiple
computers. As an 802.11b compliant product, wireless transmission of data is
protected using either 40 or 128 bit Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) password-
protected encryption. The WaveBase also supports Network Address Translation
(NAT) that provides built-in protection for all computers that access the
Internet through it.
The WaveBase enables businesses to create a wireless LAN (local area
network) or maintain an existing wired LAN and can be configured to fit a
company's changing user needs. Installation of the WaveBase can be done
quickly by customers with an existing LAN or a Nexland-authorized technician
can provide on-site set up for a variety of computer operating systems.
Complementing Bell Business Internet's existing 24/7 customer Help Desk,
Nexland provides toll-free technical support for the WaveBase.
In July 2001, Nexland renewed its agreement with Bell to expand
distribution of its Internet sharing products through Bell Business Internet.
Subscribers to either Bell's Business Internet 1.5 Mbps or 3 Mbps service also
have access to other Nexland products such as the PRO400 and PRO800, wired
Internet Gateways that respectively, allow up to four or up to eight PCs or
peripherals to directly share a single high-speed Internet connection.
