TORONTO,June 18 2003 --Starting today, Canadian video game fans have
access to the broadest suite of enhanced wireless games in the country. With
the introduction of the Java-enabled Samsung n400 wireless handset, Bell
Mobility customers can simply download and play games directly on their
wireless device. The downloadable games introduced today deliver detailed
colour graphics and sound that deliver a quality of game play far beyond
current wireless game content.
"With more than four million customers, we need to deliver applications
that suit all tastes and requirements - from productivity tools to
entertainment services," said Kelly Dixon, Vice-President of Consumer
Marketing, Bell Mobility. "The introduction of enhanced downloadable games is
another example of Bell Mobility's ongoing effort to provide customers with
more of what they want on their wireless device."
To play the games introduced today, users will need a Java-enabled
handset, such as the Samsung n400. This new breed of handset allows customers
to quickly and easily download games from some of the world's top video game
developers, including: SEGA Mobile; Sony Pictures Entertainment, JAMDAT
Mobile, Electronic Arts and THQ Wireless. Boasting the broadest suite of
downloadable games in the country with categories ranging from sports to
action/adventure to retro classic games, Bell Mobility's line up has been
developed to appeal to a wide range of interests. For a complete list of
games, please visit www.bell.ca/downloadablegames.
"As the selection of wireless games grows and the quality of the games
becomes more advanced, we're seeing more customers using their handsets as
mobile entertainment devices," said Dixon. "The more than 30 downloadable
games we have launched today demonstrates our dedication to providing our
customers with the latest and greatest in wireless entertainment."
Today's announcement further enhances Bell Mobility's more than
100-strong game line-up that includes highly popular text based wireless game
titles like Who Wants To Be A Millionaire(R), The Weakest Link(R), and Family
Feud(TM). In the last year, Bell Mobility's wireless game traffic has tripled.
This demand for wireless games from Bell Mobility customers has lead to the
introduction of bigger and better games.
According to a study by ARC Group in the United States, there are
currently 42.9 million wireless gaming users worldwide, making this
application the third most popular application in the mobile entertainment
arena after information services and music. By 2006, wireless gaming will move
ahead of music to become the second most popular application with almost 850
million users throughout the globe, according to the same study.
The downloadable games available today cost between $3 and $7 each in
addition to the airtime required to download them from the wireless Web via
Mobile Browser(TM) service. Once downloaded and saved on the wireless device,
customers generally do not have to pay for airtime beyond their initial
purchase and download charge. With the exception of multi-player games that
require players to connect to the network, customers don't have to watch the
clock while filling time playing games on their wireless device. For a limited
time, select downloadable games are available for free to provide customers
with an opportunity to trial the service.
The Samsung SPH-n400, available today at Bell World, Espace Bell
locations or through www.bell.ca, is a feature packed colour
handset that
enables users to download ring tones, screen savers, games & other enhanced
applications, providing a bigger and better wireless experience. The Samsung
n400 is also equipped with a 4-way navigation key for easy menu access. All
contained in a unique 4.0 oz. form factor that allows the display to be
present at all times whether the earpiece is open or closed.
