Bell introduces more personalized choice and control for Sympatico Internet customers

Expanded suite of Sympatico services includes more choice in access
speeds, personalized pricing and a tool to monitor bandwidth usage

TORONTO,May 6 2002 --Bell Canada today announced an expanded suite of
Internet access services that will give Sympatico customers more choice and
greater personal control of their online experience. Beginning in late June
2002, Sympatico Ultra - a 'turbocharged' version of the Sympatico high-speed
Internet service, with download speeds up to 3 Mbps and upload speeds up to
640 Kbps - will be available to existing Sympatico High Speed customers in
Ontario and Quebec. Sympatico DSL Basic - an Internet service with access
speeds up to 128 Kbps - will also be available to customers in Ontario.

    Personalized Speeds

Sympatico customers now have three distinctive DSL (digital subscriber
line) services to choose from, including Bell Canada's current Sympatico High
Speed Edition (HSE) one Mbps service. The expanded suite of DSL services will
be priced according to users' speed requirements for uploading and downloading
online content, as well as their level of online activity. Standard features
of the two new DSL-based services will be similar to those for Sympatico HSE,
which includes six email addresses, anti-spam filtering, Web mail access, 5 MB
of personal web space, a dynamic IP address and 24/7 technical support.
"Consumers' online experiences vary greatly, but with our three new
service options we are giving customers more choice in access speeds to better
correspond with their online activities," said Karen Sheriff, chief marketing
officer, Bell Canada. "The expanded suite of access services are designed to
meet the evolving needs of Internet users while continuing to offer the kind
of reliability and superior customer service that subscribers have come to
expect from Bell Sympatico."

    Personalized Pricing
In addition to offering greater choice of service speeds, Bell Canada is
evolving as an ISP (Internet Service Provider) to offer customers more
personal control over the pricing of their Internet service. This new model
combines access speed and bandwidth usage pricing to better reflect the online
behavior of individual customers. Personalized pricing supports Bell's goal of
maintaining consistent levels of service among different DSL subscribers and
addresses the network resource pressures resulting from increasing consumer
bandwidth consumption.
To support this personalized approach to delivering DSL Internet service,
all of the new Bell Sympatico DSL service plans will offer a prescribed amount
of bandwidth each month that will be directly proportional to the speed of
service a customer requests; (the higher the speed, the higher the bandwidth).
Starting in mid-June, customers using more bandwidth than their prescribed
monthly amount will be charged $0.79 for every additional 100MB of content
either downloaded or uploaded each month.

    Bandwidth activity tracker

Prior to the introduction of the personal pricing model, Bell Sympatico
DSL customers will have access to a tool that enables them to track and
determine their current level of bandwidth usage. The new bandwidth activity
tracker will allow customers to measure the quantity of online content they
upload and download each month and assist them in determining what service
plan is right for them.
"The bandwidth activity tracker is like the odometer or gas gauge on a
car, providing users with a detailed breakdown of how much bandwidth they have
used over a certain period of time," said Fil Giulione, vice-president, Bell
ISP Marketing. "92% of Sympatico High Speed customers currently consume an
average of 1.5 GB of online content each month. Looking to the future, the
personalized pricing model will ensure that customers have sufficient
bandwidth to meet their online needs and allow Bell Sympatico, as Canada's
leading ISP, to continue modernizing our network to address consumers' growing
requirements for more speed and additional online services."
