HOME GROWN INNOVATION
Bell is leading the way on innovation in Canada. Annually, we spend over $1 billion on research and development, much of which is eligible for Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) tax credits. These credits are reinvested in Bell's R&D programs.

DRIVING DEVELOPMENT AND INVESTMENT IN CANADA
Bell Canada's Innovation Centre agenda is to drive development and investments in Canada – Canadian people – Canadian businesses – Canadian ideas. The centres serve as innovative, state of the art, R&D "think-tank" environments where all ideas are considered. They facilitate virtual testing capability for System Integration, end to end Inter-op testing of both network platforms and new applications/Service Creation Engines. They also serve a professional demonstration capability to allow for direct lead customer input into services and applications development.

Bell Canada has launched Innovation Centres in key technology areas to drive leadership and revenues through partnership with applications providers to integrate and deploy their value added applications on Bell's network infrastructure. In so doing, it will influence partners to cooperate in the development of applications and to conform to industry standards and develop products / devices that incorporate Bell's specific service requirements. These Innovation Centres provide fast prototype and application incubation environments through early access to vendor's emerging products & services. The end product being Time To Market leadership.

The technology focus areas are varied and include Voice Recognition, IP, VoIP, Video, Broadband access, Wireless and Wireless Broadband.
