AMBER Alert is a warning system that quickly alerts the public of abducted children who are in imminent danger. This is done through announcements on radio and TV as well as through electronic highway signs.
The Canadian Wireless AMBER Alerts Initiative is a partnership between the Canadian wireless industry, provincial law enforcement agencies and provincial AMBER Alert agencies. The objective is to enhance the current AMBER Alerts system by distributing wireless AMBER Alerts to wireless subscribers in Canada.
Starting Wednesday, May 26, 2010, you can help find a missing child by signing up to receive AMBER Alerts by text message. The new national program, managed by the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association, will ensure there is a standard service throughout the country that can quickly reach subscribers in areas where an abduction has occurred.
Once you sign up, AMBER Alerts will appear on your mobile phone from the number 26237 (AMBER) at no cost.
The new national text message program replaces the AMBER Alert email and text message program previously administered by bce.ca and bell.ca for AMBER Alerts in Ontario. To continue receiving AMBER alerts, please be sure to register online or by text message.
